Application of the Week: ShazamID

Today I present you our new category: “Application of the Week”. You will find useful applications in this section, that everybody could need for his S60v3 device.

ShazamID

Shazam is the world’s leading music recognition technology. A few months ago, they created an application for Symbian phones simular to TrackID, a recognition service for Sony Ericsson phones.

The application records a few seconds of a playing song from the built in FM radio or the surrounding area with the microphone. With a WLAN or data connection, ShazamID is able to recognize nearly every song you want to identify.

Here you can see the order of events:

In the main menu, you can choose between “Tag Now” (Identify Tracks), “My Music” (survey about your recognised music), “Tag Chart” (Most searched Tracks from all the users of ShazamID) and “Search” (search your music by keywords over the Internet).

I start to identify a song playing in the radio. ShazamID records a few seconds.

Then you must choose the access point to let the application analyze the recorded track.

Here you are: The song has been successful identified, even the cover is loaded.

Now I am able to send this tag to a friend via text message directly with ShazamID. Just choose “Share” and the message application will be opened.

The other menu points:

Here you can see an overview about the identified music. You can also record a track and identify it later. These recorded tracks are stored here.

When you choose “Search”, the Internet browser will open with a predefined page, where you can search music.

I really love this application. A lot of times I had the problem to not know which song is played in the radio. These times are gone with ShazamID.

Actually, ShazamID is not freeware, but the trial period must be very long. It never expired for me. Maybe it is freeware…

You can download ShazamID here.

    Will ShazamID support Chinese songs?

This app is da bomb! I made up my mind about a song which I could not identify. Just run shazam with it and yada yada yada it presented finally the beloved track. The search had an end. If they will combine a purchase over the phone it will be superb.

LAME!!! They are asking to subscribe now! 3.99 per month is to much! I mean honestly how many tracks are you going to ID per month?? This is one of the reasons I got my Sony Eric phone , but I will not be paying 3.99 per month to use this service!

I can totally see a per use cost like 50 cents per song or something but 4 bucks a month?

It’s too bad. LOVE Shazam ID but will never use it again.

  6. bery95 Says:

    @jobi
I downloaded Shazam using this link – http://www.s60.mobi/mgp/events/s60/vodafone/shazam.html – once, downloaded, I changed my phone’s date back to 11/11/2007 and installed it. Once it was installed, I changed my phone’s date back to the actual date and it worked fine. Hopefully it will for you.

I’ve been playing about with the software and it’s worked well so far. Hopefully the ‘trial’ won’t expire for me.
