Noob Section: Edit ID3 Tags of your Music on the Phone

noob.jpg

I have read about a lot of people asking about an ID3 tag editor for S60 devices. (ID3 tags can contain information about a music file like the title, interpret or album cover).
That’s why I think only few people know that the built in music player has already a very well working and easy to use solution.
So I have chosen this subject for another part of the “Noob Section”, although this might also be interesting for advanced users.

Edit ID3 Tags:

Start the music player by opening the music folder and launching the “Music player”. Then access your music library…

… and select the song whose information you want to change.

Choose “Options” -> “Song details”.

That was already the main part. Now you can easily change all the wrong content by scrolling up and down to the corresponding category and enter the new desired name.

After finishing all entries, confirm by selecting “Done” with the right soft key. Now the changes should be visible in the music library.

You can also select the album cover by selecting “Options” -> “Album art” with the song selected to which you want to add the cover.

In my case, the cover is already saved in the ID3 tags, so actually it doesn’t make sense to change it. I am doing it anyway to show you how it works.

Select “Options” -> “Change”. Then a list with all the pictures stored on your memory card or phone memory should appear. Scroll up and down or use the quick search function to find your desired picture. Confirm your choice.

The picture should be visible now. If it isn’t pleasing you, you can “Restore” the “original”. Otherwise confirm again by selecting “Done”.
From now on the cover should be visible when playing your edited song.

You see, one doesn’t need an additional application to change only a few entries of the ID3 tags. The editor of the default music player is easy to use and works smootly.

    I recently found a program called Mp3tag that does all of the above: edits ID3 Tags and includes album arts into songs. It’s for the pc and it’s free.

    Bad that this article is completely useless and wrong: The s60 media player doesn´t contain any id3tag edit functionalities. It just saves additional song infos which will be displayed instead of the id3 tags. The actual id3tag won´t be edited by that so after the next music library refresh the data will be reset -> totally wrong infos in that article.
