New Nokia E90 Firmware v200.34.72 brings Flash Lite 3 Support

Wow, AAS reports that Nokia has just released a great new firmware for their current communicator.

The Nokia E90 is the ultimative business phone of Nokia which offers not only great business functionality but also up-to-date multimedia features.

Firmware v200.34.72 brings above all Flash Lite 3 support to the E90. Really surprising for me, I thought Nokia would only offer this great feature to phones of their Nseries line running with S60v3 FP1. Nokia has already released updates for the N95 and N95 8GB and a new firmware which will bring this feature for the N82 is also already certain, but Nokia to offer Flash Lite 3 to E90 users is indeed surprising and great at the same time.

The E90 has perfect conditions to view Flash videos. Its large screen is great to view videos directly on a web page like we know it from a desktop computer as you can see ahead. Switching to a special playing mode like on the N95 is not necessary.

Furthermore, AAS report that there should also be support for Web Runtime added like it has been done with the new N95 firmware. You can use useful Widgets now on your E90.

To keep business functions also up-to-date, the firmware also includes Quickoffice 4.1.27.5 with many enhancements over the old v3.85.

As usual, bug fixes have also been executed and the general phone speed is faster. However, no demand paging has been added but with 128 MB RAM it’s not that necessary.

Here are Steve’s impressions of the new firmware:

  • Flash Lite 3 added, with Flash video support
  • Support for Web runtime is probably here as well, it tends to come along with FL3 – can anyone confirm this?
  • Maps won’t open (for me, at least), you get instructed to go to the web for the latest version. Clumsy. On the web, v1.0 is shown and v1.02 is served up, which at least installs and runs fine. I’m sure the latest v2.0 beta would, too.

  • New ‘Set up Internet telephony’ shortcut on standby screen
  • Includes Quickoffice 4.1.27.5, many enhancements over the old 3.85, although without the extra functions of the v4.5 and v5.0 paid upgrades. There are also extra options in Quickmanager, specifically more rebrands of Epocware products. The new Quickoffice is apparently back-ported from the version which will be standard in S60 3rd Edition FP2.
  • Application opening and booting seem faster. I don’t think that v200 has demand paging though – seems more like optimisations.
  • A boat load of bug fixes and tweaks. The ‘Today’/# bug in Calendar seems to have gone away. Anyone confirm this with a decent size Calendar dataset? Also, let’s hope Web is more stable!

Nokia is really caring about their consumers, this is another nice firmware update which brings useful features. And now also to their Eseries line.

I don’t know for which product codes the firmware is available yet, but as usual the update should also be available soon for free codes which currently can’t update yet via NSU or the Nokia Service Centers

Bery you started a war over at aas.

A war? I told AAS my opinion about source adding and nothing more. They have got a different opinion, but there is no reason to call it a war. ;)
Steve, Marty and I remained objective, while other readers don’t. That’s the only reason you could call it “war”.

But will the upgrade wipe out all the installed applications that I have?

  5. bery95 Says:

Yes, should be so… But you can create a backup.
