N81 rumoured to get a Firmware Update soon

The Nokia N81 is obviously the Nseries phone which has been paid very little attention. Launched as a handset focusing on gaming and music experience, it never really asserted itself overshadowed by the multimedia beasts N82, N95 and N95 8GB.

Sales of the N81 stayed behind Nokia’s intentions, although it’s surely not a bad phone. A real “cry of intention” seems to have been Nokia’s step to provide N-Gage First Access only to N81 users. But as we all know, there was an easy solution to bypass the protection.
Nokia seems to have accepted this issue regarding the support for their products: while their flagships N82, N95 and N95 8GB which are being sold like hot cakes are constantly updated with great new firmwares, N81 users were only able to update once.

However, it seems like Nokia is now also working on a new firmware update for the N81. I just wanted to briefly inform you about this fact, because there aren’t any facts about changes.

Well, the user “Anarki” of the N81 Street Forum has posted a picture of his N81 running the unofficial firmware version v20.0.034 as you can see ahead. The picture does also show that the firmware is very new, dated with the 30th of January 08. Clearly a sign that Nokia is working on a new firmware.

Still we don’t know much about changes, as I have said. “Anarki” has no experiences with other firmware versions so that it’s hard for him to talk about this subject. However, v20.034 does not support Flash Lite 3 yet.

Furthermore, “Anarki” says that the new firmware will come in one or two months and his one is not the public one. He guesses that the public version will support Flash Lite 3.

I also think so, because Nokia is currently updating all its FP1 devices with Flash browser support. The E90, N95 and N95 8GB have already been updated and an update for the N82 is expected soon. So it would be a kind of “the death” of the N81 if Nokia would at least not add this feature while all other Nseries users can watch YouTube videos in their default browsers.
