I have written numerous times (here and here) about the very promising browser “Skyfire” which should be a household name for most of you. In case you still haven’t heard about this promising application, I will explain in short words why “Skyfire” causes so much intention in the Symbian world.
Skyfire is a free, downloadable mobile web browser that makes browsing on your phone exactly like browsing on your PC. You can view wany content you like e.g. watch Flash videos on YouTube, view JAVA content, listen to music and so on. “Skyfire” uses a server rendering engine which provides not only the possibility to view everything you like as I mentioned, but also very fast page rendering and unburdening the phone’s RAM.
“Skyfire” has been developed as a cross-platform for the two largest mobile operating systems – Windows Mobile and Symbian.
The Beta 1 phase of “Skyfire” has already started for Windows Mobile devices, the Beta 2 phase which includes Symbian devices will not be launched as recently as this summer. However, the browser uses the same technology for both systems and so I think it’s interesting to see how the browser already works on Windows Mobile devices.
Clear that things like the control will be changed at least for S60 devices (UIQ should be pretty the same), because current S60 devices don’t use touch input like WM phones. However, things like page rendering and the fact that “Skyfire” is able to view every page as we know it from our desktop PCs is demonstrated on a WM device like it should work on a Symbian phone.
I found three nice brief demonstrations of “Skyfire” running on a Windows Mobile 6 phone. Enjoy it, this browser is great!
