Video: Interactive ScreenSaver – very first one with Accelerometer Support

I just came across another interesting video about an accelerometer project of a kind we haven’t seen it yet.

“Interactive ScreenSaver” is the very first screensaver of its kind, as it support for the accelerometer of phones like the N82, N95 or N95 8GB. A little symbol (I still can’t recognize what it shows?) is moving according to the position you hold your phone, similar to the “Moving Ball” example application.

Apart from that, it shows the normal information like date, day and time.

Actually it doesn’t look such impressive considering what great and powerful applications with accelerometer support we are already able to use – “rotateMe” or ”RockNScroll” and numerous other projects are simply amazing and make of course a different impression than just a moving coloured circle on a screen, but you must consider that “Interactive ScreenSaver” is - like the name says – just a screensaver.

That’s really a nice idea to extend accelerometer capabilites also in this direction, although I don’t think there will be any practical use. People who love technology will of course try this new screensaver out as a little gadget, but also won’t use it for long.
The accelerometer is wasting a lot of energy and would completely misuse a screensaver which has the only purpose to do the opposite – to save battery life.

We have already seen in the first beta versions of “rotateMe” how fast your battery can empty with a permanently activated accelerometer, so my opinion is that “Interactive ScreenSaver” has an interesting concept and is truly a nice gadget, but won’t be an alternative to the default screensaver or other ones like “Largetime Screensaver”.

I am really sorry, but I couldn’t find a download link or any further information about the screensaver yet. Honestly, I really gave my best, but couldn’t find anything. If I will get further information, I will of course post them.

Anyway, another nice example what we can do with accelerometer technology. I am looking forward to try the screensaver out!
