Opera Mini Server has been upgraded

You may know that one of the most famous mobile browsers, “Opera Mini”, uses a server rendering engine which provides unbelievable fast and original page rendering along with very little transferred data.

It’s nothing special, but interesting to see that the “Opera Mini 4″ servers which are used to render pages have just been upgraded with quite a few improvements.

Phones which are low on available memory should know communicate better with the servers than it has been before. Also a complete new feed system has been added with the following changes:

  • Improved and faster feed (RSS/Atom) viewer to support for bidirectional text and layout.
  • Fixed bug with <select> items being wrongly positioned.
  • Fixed problem with images in <object> tags not being rendered correctly.
  • Made sure image maps gets rescaled to fit the screen width.
  • Fixed problem with page being zoomed in when going to page which is in history.
  • Fixed problem with some phones with little memory getting too many images.
  • The server now prioritizes sending images at the top of the document if the phone’s too low on memory to display them all.

People who use the new beta version v4.1 of “Opera Mini” will notice improvements such as:

  • Downloading of files which require authentication now works (gmail etc).
  • Redesigned the file download page.

Those of you who still don’t use “Opera Mini” should have a look at the preview of the latest version here. It’s definitely worth to try, especially when you don’t have a data flarate but want to surf anyhow on the move.

Enjoy an even better surfing experience with your “Opera Mini” browsers!
