As many people with the same opinion, I think that Microsoft’s current OS Windows Vista is everything else than convincing and revolutionary as the developers say, but one thing is although it slows down your PC much an advantage for sure – the great optics.
The new “Aearo Glass” UI and all the other lovely icons, backgrounds and bars are real eyecatchers and maybe the only attraction for XP users to change to Vista.
Anyway, we have seen many efforts to brings parts of this great Vista optics to S60 phones with several themes, but the recently released “RealVista Dektop” by “Pasha Joymaker” is definitely the nicest port I have seen yet.
“RealVista Desktop” is a Flash Lite application that can be launched with the default Flash Player and gives the user the opportunity to browse nearly every menu and submenu that your phone has contemporaneously with the great Vista optics.
The proper phone applications can be launched directly through the Vista Flash menus.
A Great thing is that the application runs on every Flash enabled phone, what means every S60 3rd Edition handset. Users of older S60 3rd Edition phone must only upgrade their Flash player what can be done with the download link at the end of the article.
Unfortunately, there are problems with the new Flash Lite 3.0 players which the N82, N95 and N85 8GB have preinstalled. You can use the menus, but the phone application won’t be launched. So far the developer cannot fix it as he told me when I contacted him and there is also no possibility to roll back the mentioned devices to Flash Lite 2.1.
For all other devices, “RealVista Desktop” is an amazing application you should give a try. And N82, N95 and N95 8GB users can at least enjoy the cool menus.
Real Vista Desktop:

When having launched the application through the Flash Player, you will see the nice “Vista Desktop” which has also the nice sidebar from its Windows OS model: the calendar displays the current date, the clock the current time.
By pressing the left softkey, you will be directed to the amazing menus:
Phone: Messages:

Multimedia: Media:

Organizer:

Internet: Others:

Settings:

Connection:

Navigation through the menu is of course not as fast as with the normal S60 menu because you often have to scroll from page to page by using the blue to arrows, but it is worth to enjoy the lovely and shiny Vista icons.
When selecting most of the available icons, the corresponding S60 application will start immediately.
Navigating through the menu is very easy to due to the possibilities to control the cursor either with the four navigation keys or the shortcuts key “1″ to launch the first application, key “2″ to launch the second one and so on.
Phone:

Making phone calls from the application is also no problem.
Clock:

After pressing “*”, you can enjoy the nice clock.
Turn off:

And also the Vista like “Turn off” options are available. The red button won’t shut down your phone, but close the application and the yellow button will lock your keys.
Google:

Mentioned should also be the nice “Google” search menu which gives you the possibility to enter a search term directly in the flash application which will then be searched with the default S60 browser.

With a little knowledge, you cannot only start the default applications, but also add your own 3rd party software and run them very fast through the “Command line” in the “Others” menu.
Have a look at the detailed “RealVista Desktop” guide to see how it works.

Even new themes can be created by editing them with a text editor. Once again, have a look at the detailed guide which is included into the download file.
At least after you have seen the amazing optics on the screenshot, I hope to have convinced you to download this great amazing Flash work.
The nicest Vista port can actually be downloaded on the developer’s page, but “RealVista Desktop” caused so much attention that the free server limit is already exceeded.
So I uploaded the signed application for you here which includes “RealVista Desktop” and the Flash Lite 2.1 player.
All you have to do is to install the application, launch the Flash Player, switch to memory card and start “RealVista Desktop”.
Visit the developer page in future to get great themes updates which the developer will provide.

Yeah, that’s what I have written, you can’t roll it back. So I guess you have a new Nseries device with FL 3 installed, that means you must go to “Applications” -> “Media” -> “Flash Player”. Then change to your memory card with a press on the “Right” key and there you should find a folder with RVD.
Please tell me if it works.

it worked.
but the tool seems still buggy and like a pre-alpha.
but i hope, works on this will go on, i think it will be possible, to make it a really cool tool in the future…

Which kind of bugs did you discover? It’s clear that the icons have no function with your FL 3 device, but that’s what I mentioned in the post and the developer cannot do anything about it.
But cool that it works.

Right, its the iCON-Thing.
I think, the Menus shouldnt be done with that Skin, if the later Folders are still in the Original Nokia Skin.
Maybe it would be a better thing to do JUST the desktop with the Vista effect and leave the rest as it was?
May 14, 2008 at 2:19 pm |
Well, that would be a totall different application.
It’s clear that you cannot change the style of the whole phone, including the applications, with a Flash file.

ahan not good its fail
May 14, 2008 at 8:29 pm |
You are right, but we can’t do anything about it.
It’s because of crappy FL 3 security options.

Great Stuff Dude.
Never found anything as cool as this. The fist flash lite app for s60 v2 which has so much things to do. i hope the creator changes the menu style for the better with smaller icons and give more of a vista-like interface. Also PLease check if you can make it a mac-menu.
Once Again. Congrats and keep innovating.
