We have already seen similar projects like the popular “ShakerRacer”, but for me it’s again and again interesting to see what can be done with the N95’s accelerometer.
I found a new video that shows how the Nokia N95 replaces a remote control and is able to control a vehicle by using intuitive motion control.
According to the tilts and turns you do with your phone, the vehicle will move. A kind of control which exposes to be very intuitive and doesn’t need any practice.
The “ShakerRacer” script was able to control a rebuilt toy car, this new video shows how a real robot, I think it’s one from ActiveMedia Robotics, can be moved using the N95’s accelerometer:
In contrast to “ShakerRacer” which used Bluetooth, the Python script which translates your movements sends data to the robot by using the N95’s Wi-Fi port.
Looks cool, doesn’t it?
I don’t know whether many of you have such Wireless LAN supporting robot standing around at home, but those who are interested can download the Python script here.
As usual, you need of course have Python and the Python Script Shell installed. Further instructions can be read on the translated developer page.
