N95’s Accelerometer controls Robot

I found a new video that shows how the Nokia N95 replaces a remote control and is able to control a vehicle by using intuitive motion control.

Currently the Nokia Innovation Expo is taking place in Espoo, Finland where all the finalists of the Mobile Rules! competition of the section “Technology Innovation” 2008.

Mobile Rules! is the world’s leading annual competition initiated by Nokia which looks for innovative mobile technology.
In the Nokia Lounge, there were presentations of many great and innovative projects, among them a simply unbelievably impressive work.

PyAcceleREMOTER – Transforms your Phone into a Motion based Remote Control

First of all I apalogize of course for the absence of myself from the Symbian and also blogging world. Blogging is just a hobby for me and there are of course more important things for me to do and I had lots of them the last couple of days which took all of my free time.
Anway, I will continue blogging now and will post the few important things I missed.

But no I will first introduce a new great accelerometer based application written in Python. “PyAcceleREMOTER” is a remote control for the popular software “mplayer” on Gnu/Linux machines.

Nokia’s Response to the iPhone – Nokia Tube

We are currently all waiting for Nokia to tell us more about their new S60 Touch UI. Their new kind of input will unique the great advantages of the S60 user interface and the touch control which has become so popular through the iPhone.

Now they have officially told us about the first device which support the new UI – It’s called “Tube”.

Shown in a slide at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference in Redwood City, Calif., Tube looks similar to the popular iPhone. The Nokia device showed graphical displays, such as a promotion for the movie Shrek the Third. Other capabilities will be featured, such as the ability to upload photos.

HOT: Great Motion controlled Game Mirage Money free to download

Maybe you remember my discovery of the great accelerometer using game “Mirage Money”. The game is one of the first games with nice 3D graphics and motion based control.

This time, it was only a project by Paul Coulton and Fadi Chehimi to show the power of an API called “Mirage-X” they together developed to provide 3D motion control for navigating with 3D virtual and augmented environments running on mobile phones.

Gaming on mobile phones is a rapidly growing market; its revenues are already being on a very high level. Many mobile gamers would like to have phones, which are well-suited to gaming.

The original N-Gage is a good example, but didn’t succeed – probably because players don’t their phone to be in “gaming-mode” all the time. Nevertheless, new accessories appear all the time, which promise to offer better controls for mobile games.

Rock’n'Scroll Feature Information

I think most of you know about the great application “Rock’n'Scroll” which allows the user to control its accelerometer using device by motion input.

The developer, KEYnetik, has published further information about the features. They are really amazing and I think worth to share with you.

Rock’n'Scroll Feature List:

  1. Up/Down/Left/Right tilt gestures to emulate single press on navigation pad. Will be operable in any orientation (portrait/landscape) and any position (horizontal/vertical/in between) as shown in the video. Good for menus and some games.
  2. Some noise filtering. It won’t be totally immune to interference, but it will be usable while in motion (walking, driving, etc.)

KEYnetik Motion Input Prototype Demo

KEYnetik, the developer of the impressive motion based application “Rock’n'Scroll” , has published another video of their idea of motion input.

The video shows a prototype demostration how motion input combined with ergonomic shape and traditional external controls can enable ambidextrous single hand operation.

Because “Rock’n'Scroll” which will be available for S60v3 phones in a few weeks works in basically the same way, I think it is a good thing to show you more of the great possibility to control accelerometer using phones by motion control.
